GOOD SOIL BEARS GOOD CROPS

“But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” (Mark 4:20 NKJV)

This parable plainly encourages all Christians to keep sowing the good seed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching that it can be expected that there will be much good fruit even though some seed may be lost on unproductive soils. It is worth remembering that even a mere thirtyfold return from a sowing that found good soil more than justifies the effort.

Every Christian has all sorts of opportunities for such sowing and under all sorts of circumstances. The circumstances of life sometimes prepare for seeking the soil of a human heart that previously had been unresponsive. There lies the great opportunity of the Christian neighbor and friend. And results may be more far-reaching than expected.

When the farmer has sown his seed into his cultivated fields and later has reaped the harvest in bountiful fruits and grains, mankind recognizes its debt of gratitude and offers God its joyful thanksgivings for the harvest. Likewise, in the spiritual real, “among the angels of God,” there is joy over the precious harvest of souls reaped as a result of the Christian’s patient sowing of the Word of God.

“Almighty God! Thy Word is cast
Like seed into the ground;
Now let the dew of heaven descend,
And righteous fruits abound.”

Ask your Heavenly Father to help you be the kind of influence among your neighbors that you ought to be, sowing in all your doings and words the good seed of God’s Holy Word. Ask the Almighty God to help you from lagging because of timidity or discouragement.
