THE HOLY SPIRIT

“Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38 NKJV)

The Holy Spirit is the third person of God. In the mystery of the three persons of the one God, each person is God in all His fullness. When a Christian says, “I believe in the Holy Ghost,” he/she is expressing faith in God. It is the Holy Spirit Who is the power of God, making us able to understand that Jesus is our Savior. Without the power of the Holy Spirit one could not believe this.

It is so well illustrated in the life of the disciples. Even before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He had to upbraid them for their unbelief. It seemed that His excellent manner of teaching both by word and example still did not produce in His disciples real faith. They could not understand or believe His death.

They were still afraid even after His resurrection. Jesus told them He would send the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, who would bring all things to their remembrance whatsoever He had taught them. It was on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2), ten days after His ascension, that this promise was fulfilled. The Holy Spirit came over them and gave them the gifts of enlightenment along with gifts of unusual grace, such as being able to speak in different languages, and being able to heal people in Jesus’ Name. They became changed men. Now they were bold in proclaiming Him to all the world; now they believed on Him. Now they feared no power on earth.

It is by the power of the Holy Spirit as He works in our hearts through the Word of God that you, too, believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Pray that God will send His Spirit to work in your heart, as you from time to time gather around His Holy Word. Pray for help from Almighty God that you will be faithful in the study of God’s Word, the Bible—that God’s will be done in your life today.
