ONE GODLY WOMAN

The following personal thoughts are shared by permission of the writer: “As my precious grandmother slipped ever so slowly and gracefully from this earth, I thought how I wish everyone could have known her. She has always been a perfect example of a kind and gentle Christian lady. Oh how she loved cooking, sewing, and taking care of my grandfather (1 Peter 3:1). By her example she makes me want to be better wife and mother.

“She always taught us ‘Beauty is as beauty does.’ Thinking of her, I always remember 1 Peter 3:4. The lady who helped care for her remarked that the physical therapist said that grandmother was the perfect example of Proverbs 31:10-13, and she really was.

“My grandparents always gave me the perfect example of a true Christian home, full of love. Church was not something we merely did on Sunday, it was a way of life, and I thank them so much. Mommy was the wife of an elder, the mother of five children, twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She always worked hard from morning until night. She was always the happiest when working. Many times I would tell her, ‘I just have more work to do than I can get done, it seems like I work all the time.’ She always told me, ‘Just be happy that you can work.’ Thinking of her, I always think of Ecclesiastes 5:19 and Titus 2:3-5. There is no way to measure the many lives that she touched over the years by example—just going about her life serving God. Her vision failed in the last few years. She talked about going home to be with God, ‘Oh honey, don’t be said, it will be a great day. Heaven will be beautiful, and I will be able to see it!’ So, I wrote this about grandmother:

“We are born, we live, we die.
Only to live again
The Righteous will inherit eternal life,
In Heaven there’ll be no end.
“Eye hath not seen; nor ear heard,
Those things that He’s prepared.
Our finite minds can’t comprehend
The splendor awaiting us there (1 Cor.2:9)

“Just imagine the thrill of seeing,
Our loved ones who’ve gone on before.
Imagine the Pearly White City;
Where pain and darkness are no more!

“Jesus has gone on ahead,
To prepare us a beautiful home;
And since He’s gone, He’ll come again,
To receive us into His own (Jn 14:3)

“As our earthly bodies begin to wane,
We’re not afraid to die.
He’ll carry us gently through the vale
To that beautiful land on high.

“Just think of the joy we’ll have meeting
Our Savior face to face.
The One who gave His precious life
And saved us by His grace.

“Should you go on before me,
Just know I’m on my way;
It won’t be long till I’ll meet you,
In that ‘land that is fairer than day.’”
