THE OPEN DOOR

“A great and effectual door is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.” (1 Corinthians 10:9)

Would you say there is an “open door” for the gospel in your city? Would you conclude that most doors (not already open) are closed to you, without a message of hope and without confidence in the future? If you will, think back in time. The apostle Paul though in Ephesus writes a letter to the church in Corinth. Here is what he said:

“A great and effectual door is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries” (1 Corinthians 10:9). His teaching would center around God, and for many years Diana had been the chief deity of that city. An industry was built around her shrines. The craftsmen would surely oppose any effort to change things. There was not provision for financial support. There was really no foundation to build on. There were social limitations with the many ethnic backgrounds. There was a natural physical handicap that was limiting Paul. He was right: there were many adversaries, but he saw an “effectual door” opened for his work.

He saw what Christians so often fail to see, the Lord was with him, at his side. He had a never failing message (Isaiah 55:11). His work would lead him to the school of Tyrannus. For two years he would continue his work there and as a result, all Asia would hear the word (Acts 19:9, 10). There was an open door!

Is there an open door in your town, or have you become so used to looking for closed doors that you have not really checked it out? Instead of looking backward, you must, with renewed vision look for YOUR OPEN DOOR.
