PARENTS

“And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4 NKJV)

The prime duty of parents toward their children is to instruct them in the Word of God. Sunday Bible schools try valiantly, but one hour a week will never meet the needs of the children. Instruction of children depends not only upon words but upon deeds. Too often parents do well telling children about Jesus, but undo everything taught by their actions.

One father upon reaching home found that the clerk at the store had given him too much change and so he drove back to the store to return the extra money. Another father comes home boasting that he received ten pounds of nails and was charged for only five, saying it was the store’s tough luck and his good luck to make such a deal. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is the basis of all Christian teaching. No amount of words can explain to a child the second father’s actions.

Pray that God will help you to be ever aware that the little things you say and do are the greatest influence upon your children. Ask God for help so that you might walk in His way, that you may lead your children to His throne of grace.

“…Serving together as God directs” (Philippians 1:27 NKJV).
