PRESCRIPTION FOR INSOMNIA

“Your word I have hidden in my heart...” (Psalm 119:11 NKJV)

Many nights, when the lights are out,
I toss and turn, and thrash about.
My daily problems may be small;
But in the dark, they’re not at all.
They grow as monsters in my mind,
As I seek answers; but none I find.

Tired and weary, I long for sleep
And in despair, try counting sheep.
Closing my eyes, there I see
Each one grazing contentedly.
Without any fear of wolves around
Lying in wait, as the sun goes down.

Close behind them; I can see,
The Shepherd standing beneath a tree.
With staff in hand, He guards His flock,
Continually, around the clock.
With the sound of one tiny bleat,
The Shepherd quickly surveys His sheep.

He held out His hand; and said to me,
Give me your cares; Oh, don’t you see?
Alone, you’ll never work them out,
And then, the angels seemed to shout!
For instead of trying to count the sheep,
I talked to the Shepherd—and fell asleep.
