REMEMBER WHEN?

This may be a bit nostalgic, but do you remember:

When the nightly news was about important world events that people of all ages needed to know?

When current events didn't contain what our culture calls 'Adult Content'?

When “A Mature Audience” was a reference to one that was proficient in history, science, geography and the other academic disciplines?

When character was an esteemed trait and was impossible to separate from job performance?

When people spoke so that their spin doctors didn't have to tell us, “This time he'll tell the truth”?

When truly repentant people asked for forgiveness? There was a time when these Bible verses were well known: "...for he is the kind of man who is always thinking about the cost" (Prov. 23:7);

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not, not what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me" (Rom. 7:15-17);

"What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 7:24-25).

There was a time in our country's history when we knew that the key to greatness was goodness; when we listened to old timers who said: “If we ever cease to be good, we'll cease to be great.”

Yes, there was even a time when we knew the third verse of America, the Beautiful:

"O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life!"

May God continue to "shed His grace."
