SON OF GOD

“What do you think about the Christ?” (Matthew 22:42 NKJV)

Jesus answers the Pharisees’ question regarding what is the great commandment. This answer is one that should be memorized and remembered by everyone, young and old. It sums up what you should strive to do through your whole life. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV).

After answering the question of the Pharisees, Jesus turns around and asks them one of the most important questions that could ever be asked of anyone. “What do you think about the Christ?” That is, “What do you think of Me?” Here the Pharisees failed. They said He was merely the son of David. They failed to see that Jesus Christ was different, that He had power to perform miracles; that He spoke as one that knew all things. They failed to see that Jesus was the Son of God.

But we believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He is different, that He has all power, and that everything He said is a message from God. Yes, churches of Christ believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven, where He is right now and that He will one day return to claim His own—His faithful children.

Thank the Almighty God that He has given you the faith to believe that Christ is God. Pray that He will strengthen that faith day by day, that you may more firmly cling to Christ. Pray for those in your own community who do not believe in Christ and who are not in His church. Pray that they will be guided to His house and into His loving and caring arms. Pray they will be granted faith to believe while there is still time.
