THE VIRTUOUS WOMAN HAD HELP

“...she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.” (Proverbs 31:15)

When children are small, a mother’s time seems to be consumed with their needs—with running a household in a relatively smooth manner. Reading the 31st chapter of Proverbs for the first time can be exasperating, because most wives fall short of what this ideal woman accomplished. After all, most wives barely find time to take care of children, clean clothes, keep the house clean; cook meals, and spend time with hubby, without managing to do the extra things this woman did.

But here’s a good question: “How many servants do you have?”

None, you say? But this biblical woman did. She provided for her servants, but they in turn helped her in numerous ways accomplish all her many and varied projects.

As with life in general, we must get the whole picture before becoming frustrated. As humans, we often fall short of both God’s expectations for us and as well as our own self expectations. To overcome that feeling of failure, we need to keep our sights on the ultimate goal of life after death—heaven. As Christians we have the promise of forgiveness, if we keep on keeping on—striving to live life according to Christ’s instructions.
