WE CAN KNOW HOW TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE
“But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)
The passages we read today tell us that we can know that we are saved and are going to heaven for eternity to live with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We need to understand that as long as we do the will of God and keep His commandments that we have this assurance. God did not tell us in His Word that we had to be perfect. He just said to keep His commands.
Sometimes the devil gets on our shoulder and tells us that we are not doing enough for God, so why don’t we just give up? This is not true: you see we can never do enough for God because He has already done everything by sending His Son to die for you and me. Just as long as we love one another and keep God’s commands to the best of our ability then we have the assurance of eternal life in heaven.
What we always strive to do is to be more like Jesus and to always do God’s will to stay in the light of His Son. To do this we must stay close to our Lord by studying His written Word that He has given us. We need to do this in order to know that we are walking in the light as Jesus is in the light.
Dear God in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son to die for us, so that we can know that some day we will live with You in heaven as long as we keep Your commands and walk in the light with You and Your Son, Jesus. In Your Son’s Holy Name. Amen.
