THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS

“Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:30, 31)

Do you know the song, “The Wind Beneath My Wings,” by Bette Midler? To some of us it is a reminder of all of the wonderful people in life who are the wind beneath our wings—parents, special teachers, various friends, and of course our wives and husbands— all a constant source of encouragement. Reflecting on all of these wonderful people and how they continue to touch the heart brings to mind the above verse in Isaiah that also mentions wings.

Although all of those people mean so much and are truly wonderful, none of them can make the promises that God makes to His people in this verse. What amazing promises and what wonderful imagery this verse presents—to soar on wings like eagles; to run and not grow weary; and to walk and not be faint. By the time the last chords of the song plays let’s give thanks for the fact that our hope is always in the Lord!
