WITHSTAND TEMPTATION

Young man, you look so lonely and sad,
You say that this day has been dreary and bad.
Yet, here you sit just wishing it away
. Wishing for the dawn of another new day.

Wishing for tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow.
Finding each day bringing more and more sorrow.
Yet, here you sit wishing time into eternity.
Hoping and wishing and dreaming life away.

Young man, take account with each rising sun,
Isn’t there someway you can help someone?
Just think of each day as a blessing God gave,
And don’t wish for tomorrow, for tomorrow is the grave.
“And do not lead us into temptation.” (Matthew 6:13 NKJV)

This verse in Matthew 6 sounds as if God tempts us to sin. However, God certainly tempts no one to sin. But what you are praying is that God would give you the wisdom to know temptation to do evil when it comes to you; and then to have strength to resist it. The devil, the ways of the world and your own inner desires are always trying to get you to do only what you want to do and to forget God.

Every time you give in to a foolish dare or temptation, you are siding in with the devil and weakening yourself. Every time you resist temptation, you are that much stronger to fight the next one. Life is a constant struggle against evil, but you are not without help. “They go from strength to strength who trust in the Lord.”

“Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin,
Each victory will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue,
Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through.”

Pray that God gives you the will and wisdom to recognize sin and to resist it with God’s might, through Jesus Christ.

“...Striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Philippians 1:27 NKJV).
