BURDENS

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you, He will never let the righteous fall.” (Psalm 55:22)

We all have burdens to bear. Job says, “Man born of woman is a few days and full of trouble” (14:1). Therefore, having burdens or troubles is not a unique thing, but how we deal with them is what counts. I must admit that I have not always handled some of my troubles in the way God would have wanted. I have relied on myself instead of going to God and relying on His promises. Of course, God expects us to do all we can, but God is all powerful and there is not anything too great for Him. He has shown me that without Him Î am nothing. It is best for us to accept the fact that sometimes burdens we have act as a means of drawing us closer to Him and to those we love.

Peter makes a remarkable statement in 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” When we cast our burdens at the feet of the Lord, we must leave them there. He will assume full responsibility for the burdens and for us. His promise is that He will sustain us, He will never let the righteous fall. With these great promises we can say as did Paul, “I can do things through Christ which strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
