DIVERSITIES

“And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” (1 Corinthians 12:6)

Looking at the whole human family, one can see many striking differences. People differ in where they live, their standard of living, their speech, their dress, their complexion, and even their manners. At the same time there are many similar characteristics. Mankind walks erect; reaching maturity by degrees; eating, suffering and dying. Shouldn’t you find the areas of agreement far more important than wherein you differ with others?

Mankind resembles each other regarding what is essential. The variations are far less important. The likeness is in what is essential to human nature. It is here one needs to consider the image of the church of our Lord.

Christians can differ in their opinions, their speculations and their personal discipline. These are only the dressings of religion, the body must remain essentially the same. Jeremiah promised for God, “I will give them one heart and one way” (32:39). This has been His plan since promising that “New heart” (Ezekiel 11:19).

No matter what constitutes those differences that arise out of “human” element, as a Christian you must join with David in his prayer, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). This should be easily done if you accept the teaching He has given you, “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3). This will lift you above those diversities that tend to separate you.
