DRAWN OF GOD

“I drew them.” (Hosea 11:4)

Hosea reminds his readers, speaking of God, “I drew them” (11:4). As a Christian and student of the Bible, you will remember from reading in the New Testament, Jesus tells how you will be “drawn of God” (John 6:44). For a moment, consider being drawn of God.

When you “push” you are forcing away from yourself. When you “draw” you are pulling toward yourself. It was and is the purpose of God to bring you toward Him. Sin alienates you, forcing you away from Him. In that condition man views God as an intruder and like Peter the sinner is apt to say, “Depart from me.”

Here you need to remember the special prerogative of man: he is the only creature in the world capable of both knowing and enjoying God! Quite naturally he is going to be miserable without that relationship.

Yes, man can fill that void with other things. He can engage his thoughts, consume his energies, but he cannot give himself real satisfaction. Such cannot satisfy his mind.

What is life? A vapor that appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth away. What a dreadful thought to enter eternity with only our present passions and appetites.

There is a great blessing to be “drawn of God.” Just think what it would mean to be drawn to His Word, drawn to His people, drawn to His table, drawn to the cross of His Son. Here is a place of security. Here is where God is “reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them” (2 Corinthians 5:19).
