HOPE
Among men, to hope for a thing is to be uncertain as to attainment, for hope has to do with the future, and any future, man as man, can reckon on is necessarily uncertain. In the Scriptures hope simply refers to the future, never to the uncertain. We may be as assured of what God has promised as if we already possessed it. The Bible hope is more than a wish or desire: it is the well-grounded expectation of securing something good.
Without hope: the condition of all by nature (Eph. 2:12)
A false hope: the delusion of the hypocrite and deceived one (Job 8:13)
A good hope: the portion of the true believer (2 Thess. 2:1)
A living hope: the Christian's possession (1 Pet. 1:6)
A sure hope: the saint's present stay (Heb. 6:19)
A hope that will never put its possessor to shame (Rom. 5:5)
A hope that has its eye fixed on the Lord's return (Tit. 2:12)
A hope that purifies the one who is held by it (1 John 3:3)
Christ Himself the basis, object, and crown of our hope (1 Tim. 1:1)
