Pray For the Kingdom
“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.” (Matthew 9:35 NKJV)
Visiting patients in a large general hospital one afternoon in 1959, a young freshly ‘born again’ child of God said to an older Christian, a preacher, who was
visiting with him, “Do you have a little book of prayers for that older man over in
the corner?” The preacher said, “Yes,” and with the young boy, walked over to
the elderly patient. The old man was approximately seventy years old and did
not now the Lord’s Prayer. He accepted the little book of prayers with thanks
and began paging through the book. Before leaving, the young Christian boy
said a prayer for the four hospitalized men in that ward. The thought that kept
going through his young mind was, “70 years old and does not know the Lord’s Prayer.”
It seemed unbelievable and yet tragically true. As a member of the church of our Lord, you should pray for the Kingdom daily, i.e., pray for loved ones, neighbors, preachers, missionaries, leaders in government, leaders in the church, and for enemies at home and abroad.
Pray that your Father in Heaven will forgive you for failing to measure up to His standards; for neglecting His Holy Word; for going your own selfish way. Pray that God will give you power from on high to pray for the Kingdom daily.
